Planet Chef Project

How can we follow an eco-friendly diet?

Today, the current food system is responsible for 10% of the EU's total greenhouse gas emissions and the decline of natural resources, resulting in biodiversity loss, negative health impacts and critical livelihoods for local farmers and rural communities.

The main objective of this eTwinning project is that students reflect on the values of a healthy and responsible cuisine by focusing on the array of new flavors, plant-based alternatives, culinary techniques and menu options that have recently been introduced into the catering industry.

Students have:

  • become familiar with the the SDG 12 (Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns) of the UN and the Farm to Fork strategy under the European Green Deal.

  • developed creativity, innovation and problem-solving by designing a website with planetary healthy meal plans, which are affordable and accessible for everyone;

  • taken action for environmental sustainability from a business perspective, by identifying marketing strategies and writing promotional texts;

  • conducted an intensive research and analysis on eating habits and alternative diets;

  • created collaboratively a cookbook with tasty plant-based recipes and developed a network of local sourcing suppliers and producers;

  • built friendships that will help them to become better connected and prepare them for long term success;

  • improved communication in the foreign language (mainly English) and digital literacy for a more meaningful learning.
